Body massage is generally a structured and systematic procedure of applying tension, movement or vibration, with or without the application of heat. Massage is the practice of rubbing and kneading the body with your hands. During a massage, a trained massage therapist will apply gentle or strong pressure to the muscles and joints of the body to relieve pain and tension. When preparing for a massage, plan to wear or at least bring loose, comfortable clothing with you.
Plan to wear loose, comfortable clothing for the massage to begin your relaxation process. You will be asked to undress, up to your comfort level, for the massage. Wearing loose-fitting clothing for the massage will make the process of undressing much easier for you. After the massage, you may feel sensitive or simply extremely relaxed and will appreciate not having to put on restrictive clothing.
Massage is a traditional method of practical healing. There are several massage styles and techniques. However, the basis of many popular massage techniques is Swedish massage, which is a whole-body oil massage aimed at relaxing muscles and joints. Specific massage modalities using the Swedish massage technique include deep tissue massage, sports massage and prenatal massage.
Other known massage modalities include shiatsu, hot stone massage and reflexology. Work with the customer's arms and hands face down or face up, depending on when you want them to turn around. Use the long, slow movements of effleurage as you did with your legs. Alternate the more intense and deeper work of petrissage, compression and friction with a twisting motion if you can support the weight of the client's arm in their hands.
Ask the client to turn over to the supine or prone position for the rest of the massage. Move to the end of the table near the customer's head and extend your hand below the neck to comb your fingers up from the back to the base of the skull.
